A large acorn takes center stage on this week's card. It's surrounded by a lush mix of colorful autumn leaves, delicate fern fronds, and sweet butterflies. Shades of browns, golds and greens create that cozy fall feeling, while a beautiful earthy teal blue bow and background adds an unexpected pop of color.
I love how all of the little details come together around the oversized acorn, creating a full and festive autumn arrangement. The butterflies add a touch of whimsy and keep the design feeling light and cheerful. Finished with a birthday sentiment, this card is a colorful way to celebrate someone special during one of the prettiest seasons of the year!
My card features the following new products from the Acorns & Embers fall collection by Honey Bee Stamps:
Display Box: Fall Add-on Honey Cuts Dies
Lovely Layouts: Framed In Fall - Honey Cuts Stand-Alone Dies
Keepsake Sentiments: Fall Stamp Set and coordinating Honey Cuts dies
Little Labels Stamp Sets and coordinating Little Labels Honey Cuts dies
For the basics... my Honey Bee Stamps featured project below is made from Neenah 80lb Solar White cardstock for the card base and card front panel. All of the black ink stamping was done using Honey Bee’s Bee Creative Intense Black Ink. I use Honey Bee Stamps Bee Creative Precision Glue and for when I want more dimension, Bee Creative Foam Honeycomb Foam for adhering my elements together. My blender brushes (large and small) are a must for ink blending color on the background, too. For white highlights, I use my white acrylic pen. My card is 5" X 7" in size.
You can watch my reel on Instagram to see how this card was made and assembled!

To create this 5" X 7" card, I started with making this oversized acorn using the Acorn Card Base. Instead of making the acorn the card base, I used the acorn as the focal point on an A7 sized card. I used Distress Oxide Ink in Walnut Stain, Rusty Hinge and Ground Espresso to color the textured nut. I focused on making the edges darker and keeping the center more light. I also splattered the acorn parts with white, brown and a rusty brown watercolor ink. The splatters make the acorn look more organic and interesting.

Using a gorgeous earthy blue cardstock from the the Hive Hues - Earth Tones cardstock collection, I die cut the fancy frame background using the Lovely Layouts: Framed In Fall - Honey Cuts Stand-Alone Die. I love the fun and whimsical border that frames this large acorn. I splattered it with white ink and a fan brush and set it aside to dry. Later, I attached the acorn to the background, using foam tabs for the top cupule part of the acorn so that is stands out more than the pericarp section.

Using the Display Box: Fall Add-on Honey Cuts Dies, I cut leaves, fern fronds, butterflies and a bow to accent the acorn. I colored the butterflies using Copic Markers in golds and browns and blended Distress Oxide Inks over the design to accentuate the details. The leaves were also ink blended using Unchartered Mariner, the perfect blue to match this cardstock, Ripe Persimmon, and Fossilized Amber. I adhered the elements in place and attached the butterflies using foam tabs. Tip: I used the longer leafy fronds first, to create the arrangement line, then layered the leaves and butterflies on top of them. This helps to set the design early on so it does not get too large for the acorn.

To complete the front of the card, I added two sentiments from the Keepsake Sentiments: Fall Stamp Set and coordinating Honey Cuts dies (long sentiment) and the Little Labels Stamp Sets and coordinating Little Labels Honey Cuts dies (happy birthday sentiment). Both sentiments were stamped, die cut and then layered with two more die cuts to make them thicker before attaching them.

Inside the card, I added a earthy blue fern frond and an natural white leaf inside along with splatters of brown watercolor ink for a coordinated, organic looking interior. It's a little surprise inside that will complement any sentiment or handwritten note included.
