Today’s handmade card celebrates those simple, summertime moments with a picnic scene filled with all the essentials—a picnic basket, a loaf of fresh bread, sandwiches, subs, juicy watermelon, a bag of chips, fruit preserves, mustard, a little wine, and, of course, dessert! With the sentiment, “Life’s a Picnic,” this card is a sweet reminder that life is best enjoyed surrounded by the people we love, sharing good food, laughter, and memories together around a rustic, wood picnic table in the warmest days of summer!

For the basics... my Honey Bee Stamps featured project below is made from Neenah 80lb Solar White cardstock for the card base and card front panel. All of the black ink stamping was done using Honey Bee’s Bee Creative Intense Black Ink. I use Honey Bee Stamps Bee Creative Precision Glue and for when I want more dimension, Bee Creative Foam Honeycomb Foam for adhering my elements together. My blender brushes (large and small) are a must for ink blending color on the background, too. For white highlights, I use my white acrylic pen. My card is 5" X 7" in size.

To make this 5" X 7' card, I die cut all the elements using the Lovely Layers: Picnic Table Honey Cuts dies. I used Distress Oxide Inks and Copic Markers to color all the elements. For the tablecloth, I inked the die cut using a blender brush and Distress Oxide Ink in Worn Lipstick and then colored the individual squares using a Copic R14 marker. I colored the picnic table with various browns to create a woodgrain look.
For the patio umbrella, I die cut a white shade from white cardstock and a printed shade using pattern paper from the Summer Picnic paper pad. For the white fringe, I made parallel cuts long the bottom edge and attached it behind the pattern die cut. Next, I attached the silver metallic post behind both cuts and glued the white ball on the top to complete the umbrella. I love the fringe! So cute!
To make the background, I used the Summer Scene Builder Stencil Set, my blender brushes (large and small) and Distress Oxide inks in the Mowed Lawn, Rustic Wilderness, Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean and Ground Espresso. I have to confess something. I ended up with some accidental ink markings on the right side of the scene so I covered them up by drawing in a leafy vine on both sides. I love how that detail looks. Sometimes mistakes make great additions! I cut the design down to 4-3/4" wide X 5-1/2" and attached it to a white card base measuring 5" X 7".
I attached the die cuts to the scene in this order: patio umbrella, picnic table, tablecloth, picnic basket, wind, mustard, soda, dessert on a plate, brat wine glass, a sandwich on a plate, chips bag, watermelon and fruit preserves.
I stamped, die cut and attached two sentiments from the Sweetest Bunch stamp set and coordinating Honey Cuts dies. I die cut and colored another slice of watermelon and tucked it under the "p" in the "Life's a picnic" sentiment. It's the perfect little unexpected treat to go with the phrase! This card is ready to celebrate summer with your favorite picnic goers!
